Outbound Email Infrastructure Engineer

You’ll architect and maintain the systems that handle outbound email delivery at scale — from IP rotation to inbox routing to smart queueing and load management. You’ll work closely with our Email Deliverability Engineer and full-stack team to evolve a system capable of handling high-volume cold outreach with speed, security, and compliance.If you’re someone who thrives on building highly-performant, scalable systems with deep attention to infrastructure detail and email behavior, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and maintain the core infrastructure behind our outbound email engine

  • Implement scalable queueing, rate-limiting, and execution logic for millions of daily email events

  • Develop systems for multi-domain, multi-IP, multi-sender routing and management

  • Automate warm-up, rotation, reputation tracking, and failover logic

  • Collaborate with the Email Deliverability Engineer to build tools for monitoring IP/domain reputation, bounce/error handling, and blacklist avoidance

  • Build real-time dashboards, alerts, and internal tooling to monitor performance and system health

  • Ensure outbound systems are resilient, compliant, and aligned with email protocols and best practices

  • Research and implement strategies for maximizing throughput while maintaining strong sender reputation

You Should Know

  • 4+ years experience in backend engineering, infrastructure, or systems development

  • Deep understanding of email protocols (SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC), DNS, and mail delivery architecture

  • Experience scaling email systems using ESPs (e.g. SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark) or custom infrastructure

  • Strong experience with queue systems (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis Queue), rate-limiting logic, and concurrency patterns

  • Proficiency in backend languages (e.g., Node.js, Go, Python, or similar) and cloud-native architecture (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)

  • Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and alerting systems (e.g., Datadog, Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus)

  • Bonus: experience with outbound/cold email platforms or sales engagement tools

You Might Be a Fit If…

  • Familiarity with inbox rotation and sender persona simulation

  • Experience working on products that integrate with email inboxes (Gmail/Outlook APIs, IMAP/SMTP)

  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems and scaling logic for high-volume data pipelines
